Have you been feeling like you are trapped in a vicious circle of de motivation?

Do you KNOW the right / best / simple things to do, yet just don't seem to have the oomph to get up and go ?

I totally know what that feels like ! After having lunch with a good friend today who was telling me about her own de motivational spiral, added to my own troubles of getting back on the exercise waggon I thought I'd explore with you what the heck is going on !

So I know that exercising at least 3 times a week for a minimum of 30 mins is THE only way I can prevent my chronic back pain from flaring up. I have spent the last 3 years as living proof of that, yet somehow after a break from exercise finding the motivation to get off my ass and do some cardio is really hard !

In my head I know what I have to do, but in my heart I just can't be bothered !

Does this sound familiar - I know so many women this resonates with. Many of my clients will nod their head in agreement as they read this.

Never fear though I have some game changing advice for you (and me - although my coach has called me out on this already)

The question to ask is this WHAT IS GOING ON IN MY LIFE RIGHT NOW?

You see there is probably something going on that you haven't even considered and its going to be causing all of this stickiness. Often because we are unhappy, or lacking in one or a few areas then the whole motivational spiral can begin and we tend to blame something else completely!

Take a look at the following areas and ask yourself if you are content - give them a score out of 10, 1 being very unhappy, 10 being pretty near perfect.

  1. Creativity - are you always feeling creative or never inspired?
  2. Finances - are you comfortable or craving extra income
  3. Career - are you doing the work you love or feeling unchallenged
  4. Education - are you continually learning or wishing you could study something interesting
  5. Health - do you feel in tip top condition or run down and worn out?
  6. Physical Activity - are you getting out and moving each day or looking at your gym membership longingly?
  7. Home Cooking - do you cook great nutritious meals most days or pick up a takeout?
  8. Home Environment - is your home space positive and clutter free or do you live in negativity and mess
  9. Relationships - are you involved in harmonious and healthy relationships or do they bring toxic energy
  10. Social Life - do you get to meet inspiring, loving people regularly or sit alone wishing you had somewhere to go
  11. Joy - do you wake feeling the joys of spring and gratitude or do you get out the wrong side of the bed each day?
  12. Spirituality - Do you make time for the thing that gets you close to your hearts desire or do you feel empty and lost?

Take a look at the areas that you scored lowest in. Look where the imbalances are and make a plan of where you need to spend more time and energy.
When we create more balance then the things we think of as demotivating soon become much more manageable and the time we have is spent in a positive way equally.

Taking the time to do this exercise can really pinpoint the places you never even considered might be causing the fog and fug that is stopping you moving forward.

Break it down into manageable steps though, don't get overwhelmed trying to balance everything at once.

Take your time, plan things in and commit to them!

Take the action to do something no matter how small and you will start to see the rewards in a much more fluid and positive life.
